Mark Brandenburg (politician)

Mark A. Brandenburg (born 1955) is the Iowa State Representative from the 15th District. A Republican, he has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2011. Brandenburg was born, raised, and resides in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He has an A.A. in mathematics from Iowa Western Community College, where he later taught, and a B.S. in human resource management from Bellevue University.
, Brandenburg serves on several committees in the Iowa House - the Judiciary, Public Safety, and Veterans Affairs committees. He also serves as the vice chair of the Commerce committee and as a member of the Justice System Appropriations Subcommittee.
==Biography==
Mark Brandenburg is a lifelong resident of Council Bluffs. He attended Rue Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High and Thomas Jefferson High School. He graduated from Iowa Western Community College and from Bellevue University. He is a former Adjunct Instructor that taught for 10 years at Iowa Western Community College.
Brandenburg retired from the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) where he worked for 34 years. Before entering management at OPPD, Mark was a long-time member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1483. He also served on the OPPD Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. He currently is the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum. He is also on the board of directors of the Council Bluffs Senior Citizens Center, Loess Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross and IWCC Alumni Association.
Mark has demonstrated his commitment to education by receiving his college degrees, attending college at night, while working full-time during the day, serving on the School Board and as Board Member of the IWCC Alumni Association. (He was elected in 1990 and again in 2005 to the Council Bluffs Community School District Board of Education). In addition, Mark was an Adjunct Instructor at Iowa Western Community College from 2001 through 2010. He has always felt education is important and enjoys teaching. Mark knows first-hand the issues and circumstances that teachers deal with and face on a daily basis.
Mark is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, is a member of Pheasants Forever and is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion and supports our men and women who are fighting for our country and honors those that have died or have been injured. Mark is a former Pottawattamie County Volunteer Sheriff Deputy and was a Cub Master when his children were in Cub Scouts.
Mark and his wife Debbie have two sons, Chad (who married Michelle Murphy) and Travis (who married Michelle Horrocks), and have six grandchildren. Mark and Debbie are members of the Eastside Christian Church.
